Back to Denmark with MWP - but today we find out why his albums sound so dope....
IPM: How'd you get into making music? Who or what made you say, "I want to make beats."?
MWP: I've always listened to Hip-Hop since I can remember, but I got disappointed with a lot of CD's, because there always tended to be some wack tracks during the length of an album. One day I just said to myself, I wanna provide albums that people, like myself, can listen to without skippin' any of the tracks. After that I downloaded the Fruity Loops Demo and started creatin'.
IPM: What's your studio setup like? Any gear you simply can't live without? Anything you're looking to add?
MWP: My setup is really basic actually, but I like to keep it that way. I usually sample from Vinyl. So I got my crates of wax, turntable, mixer and a MPC 2000. Sometimes I like to make stuff in FL Studios as well, but that's usually when I'm on the go or not home... I still make hot shit with that software. Haha. I never had the full version though. I've always used the Demo. I'm always lookin' for new records, so I love crate-diggin'. I might wanna get some new turntables in the future and mess with Serato Scratch Live. Just to expand my horizon and look into DJ'ing. Maybe upgrade my MPC to the XL version or the 2500.
IPM: I featured you here a couple of times - once with Elcee, and another with Kenny Cheeze. You've got that true, real, soulful Hip-Hop style locked down. Do you plan to produce other genres, as well?
MWP: I usually do all kinds of Hip-Hop. The albums on your website have been strictly soulful stuff, but I do more Boom-Bap and Jazzy stuff as well. Depends on my mood. I would love to do some soul records with some female singers. Mainly because I've been around soul music for along time, and I listen to it on the regular.
IPM: What's your ideal situation? Any artists, labels, or studios you'd like to work with? Trying to start your own studio or label?
MWP: I would love to work with Action Bronson. He's one of my favorite Emcees out right now. Reks, Torae, Skyzoo would be dope too, just to name a few... As far as labels go, I would love to release some albums via Ill Adrenaline Records, a new upcomin' label from Jersey. Or maybe throu' Fat Beats Records. I've talked with two of my friends about settin' up a studio in Copenhagen and just make a lot of ill shit. Maybe in the future make it a label. It would definitely be a blessing.
IPM: How's the Hip-Hop scene in Denmark? Anyone (besides you) we should be looking out for?
MWP: The Hip-Hop scene in Denmark is kinda weak right now. I won't mention any names, but there's a lot of "kiddy" rap out now. It's like people doesn't get attracted by good lyrics or a dope beat. Everything is so commercial over here. With that bein' said, there are still people like Sicknature (The Snowgoons), Earshot (From my first Demo) etc, who makes some dope stuff.
IPM: Tell us what you're working on, and what's coming out next for you. And drop a few links so the people can find you. Thanks for taking the time!
MWP: Man... I'm workin' on a lot of stuff at the moment. I just did some tracks for Fes Taylor's (Staten All-Stars) new album and I got some new joints with Wyld Bunch comin' out too. We've talked about doin' a collabo album this year as well. Despite that, I'm workin' on a free Instrumental album entitled "The Beats Before Time". I got a complete Remix album layin' around, just waitin' to be released. 21 tracks on that. Kenny Cheeze talked to me earlier this week about some work for his new mixtape. I produced a whole album for Rockwell reppin' Seattle, which is in the makin'. I have about 10 tracks on Street Disciple's new Mixtape droppin' soon, called "The Transformation" and I produced a whole album for him as well, with features from Craig G, Natural Born Spitters etc. It's called R.A..W. (Real Above Wack) and will hopefully be droppin' in late 2012. I got a free EP droppin' with S.D.'s cousin Judah Priest (Brooklyn ZU) as well. I produced a whole album for Crisis Tha Sharpshooter reppin' RZA's Wu Tang Killa Beez. It's still in the makin'. Finally I produced another full length title for King RA from New Jersey. We dropped a video called "I Gotta Get Paid" which has gotten a lot of love on various blogs. I think it has around 7.500 views on Youtube in around 2 ½ months. People can look me up at:
