Today's feature, from the West Coast, is Kapone - "Tha Release"

Right off the bat, the title track comes in to set the mood.  A good first song is so important, to me.  Kapone sets it off with a strong statement of what he's about - A hungry artist, ready to put it all on the line.  The passion comes through.

Kapone has obviously done this before.  His delivery and lyrics are on point, and the beats (prod. by Kapone) are great, and all a bit different.  Aside from the skillful flow, he's got a good singing voice, too.  Some of that style stands out on "Find A Way" and "They Don't Know" - my fave on this one.  I'm also diggin' "Get Money", with an interesting set of sounds & a big beat.

The album ends with a cool cover of "Erotic City" by the legendary Prince & The Revolution, followed by a spoken outro from Kapone to remind you that what you just heard, was all him.  But you'll already know that by then, because he makes the connection to the listener.  This is one REAL album.

Got something different today.  Broadjam.com is a great site for independent musicians to network and share their songs.  Their many features include web hosting, Professional reviews, music licensing opportunities, and Broadjam Radio, which features artists from around the world.

I'm going to share 3 awesome Broadjam artists with you here, but I encourage you to check out their site for more independent music. There's something for everyone.

First up, some Hip-Hop, with UniFi Records - "Rockstar". What a great beat and feel-good flow.  I really like this one. Link.
Moving to some indie punk rock, I found Cactus Joe - "Roundhouse". Fun lyrics about a crappy situation. Awesome bass. Link.
Finally, great roots-rocker, and friend o' mine, Rusty Moped - "Lie To Me".  All parts recorded by the man, himself. Link.
So there you go. Three good reasons to check out Broadjam.com for independent music. You can find me there, but you're already here, so go find someone else.  There are PLENTY.

More heat. This time from Virginia, with SharpShooters' release "Indy 500: The Warmup".

This whole album was recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by SharpShooters over a span of 3 months, and their hard work paid off.  "Indy 500: The Warmup" is 15 tracks of original, entertaining, independent Hip-Hop.  The production is high-quality, and the MCing is clean and energized.  All-around professional sound.

My favorite songs are "Throwback Music (feat. S. Black)" and "Ready To Go".  There's some chill, smooth stuff like "Block Party", and different angles like "Crazy" and "Push". As the album progresses, each song reveals something new.

Be sure to get connected with SharpShooters.  They're putting out quality music. I always strive for something different, and I'll keep posting up gems like this.  It's great what you can find when you look around a little, or ask a friend. GET THIS ALBUM!
